Hon Tre is the largest island in Nha Trang Bay, sitting square across the view from the shore to the open sea. It is hilly, its coast alternating between sand and rock, and it holds most of the city’s island tourism infrastructure.
The beach on the eastern side has clear, calm water suited to swimming and kayaking. From the higher ground you get the whole Nha Trang shoreline in one sweep — the reverse of the view most visitors know from Tran Phu street.
Two ways across: the over-sea cable car from Cau Da, or a boat from the port. The cable car takes ten to twelve minutes; a boat is slower but shows you the island from the water.
Most people come on a theme-park ticket, and that is the easiest way in — much of the island’s coast falls inside the resort operation, so wandering freely is more restricted than visitors expect.
If the view is what you want and the amusement park is not, a return cable car ride makes more sense than a full-day pass. Go late in the afternoon, when the light softens and the city across the bay starts to light up.
