The Yersin Museum occupies part of the Pasteur Institute in Nha Trang — the institute he founded in 1895. The display is built around a reconstruction of his study and personal library.
Among the objects are his microscopes and laboratory instruments, letters to family and colleagues in France, and the maps and field notes from his surveys of the highlands — including the journey that led to the choice of the site that became Da Lat.
The correspondence is what separates this from a cabinet of instruments: through letters to his mother and sister you watch a scientist leave Europe in his thirties and decide to spend the rest of his life in a coastal town in Vietnam.
The museum is small; an hour covers it properly. It sits on Tran Phu street in the centre, walkable from many hotels.
