Binh Ba sits at the mouth of Cam Ranh Bay, roughly 60 km south of Nha Trang plus a boat from Ba Ngoi port. It is nicknamed Lobster Island for the rafts of lobster pens that cover the water around it.
Unlike the resort islands of Nha Trang Bay, Binh Ba is a genuinely inhabited place — a village, a market, a school. Visitors who stay usually take a room in a family home, eat seafood on the rafts, and ride a motorbike around the island.
That is what makes it different: you eat dinner at the same hour as the village, and wake to boats heading out rather than poolside music. The island is small enough to circle by bike in about an hour, past a handful of little beaches tucked between headlands.
Because the journey combines a long road leg with a boat crossing, Binh Ba works better as an overnight than a day trip. Boats run to a fixed and not especially frequent schedule, so missing the last one means staying.
One thing to check before committing: Binh Ba lies within a militarily sensitive area, and access rules have changed more than once, including restrictions on foreign visitors. Verify the current position rather than trusting an older article — this is information that goes stale quickly.
